The best way to make sure you are best able to adapt quickly in an emergency is to keep both of your hands on the wheel at all times, unless shifting gears if you have a manual transmission. Your hands should be in the center of the wheel on the left and right sides, like the 9:00 and 3:00 positions on a clock. It is also recommended that you avoid the far left lane on the freeway as this is where most collisions on the freeway occur.
