What are everyday dangers found in illegal turns?

On Behalf of Pheffer Law | May 9, 2019 | Auto Accidents

Californian residents like you spend plenty of your day on the road, whether it’s commuting to work, meeting with friends, or just going to pick up groceries. There are many small dangers you could come across any time you do your daily driving. Illegal turns are one of them.

FindLaw first looks at illegal U-turns, which can be particularly dangerous because a driver is fighting against traffic to make this turn. Any time you have to fight against traffic, you increase your chances of hitting or being hit by another vehicle. This is especially true when it comes to turns.

Turns are usually deemed illegal for safety reasons. For example, turning left on a red light will likely result in a driver getting hit by the traffic flow they are attempting to merge into. In some places, even turning right on red is disallowed because it’s simply too dangerous for a driver to do so.

Vehicles that are mid-turn also have a limited range of visibility and lower reaction time. This means that they might not be able to see any dangers coming their way. Even if the dangers are visible, there might not be enough time or space to react properly to it, resulting in a crash. These things are taken into consideration when deciding whether a turn should be allowed or not.

If you have been involved in a crash that happened because someone took an illegal turn, you may want to contact an attorney. You can look into options for potential compensation.
