3 common causes of motor vehicle crashes

On Behalf of Pheffer Law | Aug 20, 2025 | Auto Accidents

People get on the roadways without thinking that they’re going to be involved in a crash. Even the safest drivers are still at the mercy of other drivers on the road.

Understanding some of the causes of car wrecks may be beneficial to people who are on the roadways. These are three common, but preventable causes of crashes.

1. Distracted driving

Drivers can’t allow distractions to take their attention off the road. Many people don’t think about every way that a driver could be distracted. These include anything that takes their thoughts, eyes or hands away from driving. Even something as seemingly innocent as looking at a billboard could be a distraction.

2. Impaired driving

Consuming alcohol or using drugs before driving can lead to slowed reaction times and an inability to drive safely. Some people don’t realize that even prescriptions or over-the-counter medications can lead to impairment that causes problems with driving.

3. Fatigued driving

Failing to get enough sleep before they get on the road can also lead to changes in driving abilities. A person who goes 20 hours without sleep will have the same driving impairment as someone who’s legally intoxicated. There aren’t any quick cures for fatigue, so drivers must ensure they’re properly rested before getting behind the wheel.

Victims of motor vehicle crashes should ensure they get immediate medical attention, which can be costly. Those costs come at a time when the victim might not be able to work, so income is limited or nonexistent. Seeking compensation for these matters may help to reduce the financial impact of the injuries. It may be beneficial to work with someone who can assist with exploring the options and determining how to move forward.
