4 Natural ways to reduce inflammation after a car accident

On Behalf of Pheffer Law | Aug 3, 2018 | Injuries

It’s very common to experience inflammation after even the most minor car accidents. When inflammation and swelling build in the body, the nerves surrounding your muscles can become irritated, resulting in harsh aches and pain.

Follow these natural anti-inflammation remedies to find relief quickly and make for a faster recovery:

Take time away from work

Regardless of the extent of your injuries, stay home for at least the day following the accident to rest. With less demands made on the body—and especially your heart — rest allows your breathing to calm, your blood pressure to drop and your muscles to relax. This reduces inflammation to help your body heal.

Hydrate

Drinking fluids can help reduce inflammation too. The less inflammation you have, the faster tissue repair can occur. Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water, vitamin C or fluids with electrolytes each day to achieve higher energy levels and feel better.

Movement

Movement increases blood flow, which can help the healing process. However, it may be hurtful or helpful depending on your injury. For example, if you have a sprain, moving the area where the sprain is will only worsen inflammation. Try to incorporate some movement into your day, but remember to listen to the way your body responds.

Eat anti-inflammatory foods

Include anti-inflammatory foods in your diet, such as:

  1. Turmeric — up to 1,500 mg per day
  2. Vegetables — spinach, kale and tomatoes
  3. Nuts — almonds, walnuts and other high protein nuts
  4. Fish — salmon, mackerel and tuna
  5. Fruits — strawberries, blueberries and oranges

Being involved in a car accident can be physically, emotionally and financially painful. If you have been involved in an accident, be sure to seek medical attention — even if you don’t think you’re hurt.

Your next course of action is to discuss any injuries you received in the accident with an attorney. Filing a personal injury claim may put you into a better position to cover costs for the care you need. Compensation may cover lost wages, medical treatment, transportation costs and more.
