For many decades now, California residents have heard advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving and law enforcement teams speak about the horrors and dangers of drunk driving. Many options today exist for people to find other ways to their destinations should they choose to consume alcoholic beverages yet a great number of people refuse to take advantage of these options. As such, innocent people continue to die and be injured.
When this happens, those left behind have to wonder why this can be allowed to happen. When lives are taken it always hurts but when they are taken by the very people intended to protect them it can be all that much worse. A family of three were killed last fall after their vehicle was slammed into by a drunk police officer in Santa Fe Springs. People in another vehicle survived but were injured in the wreck.
The police officer today faces three charges of murder along with offenses for drunk driving. His sentence may find him spending the rest of his days in prison while the family of those who died must life the rest of their days without their loved ones. It is not known if any civil charges have been filed.
People whose lives are changed forever by drunk drivers might want to talk with an attorney to find out how they may seek compensation and attempt to move forward with their lives.
